Gateway Casinos Innisfil and Online Casinos

Gateway Casinos Innisfil is a building on 5th Side Road, with its own doors and its own rules for getting in. Playing at an online casino in Ontario is a different matter with its own rules, and this page explains them simply.

Who is allowed to bet online in Ontario?

Online casino play in Ontario is open to people aged 19 or older. That is the same age that applies at the door of the casino. There is a second rule, about place.

A person has to be physically inside Ontario at the moment a bet is made. An account, meaning the personal file a website keeps for each player, can be opened from somewhere else. Bets only count when they are placed from inside the province.

Which websites may run casino games here?

Ontario allows a private online casino only if it meets two conditions. The AGCO, the regulator, must have registered it. A signed contract with iGaming Ontario (iGO), called an operating agreement, is the second condition. The official list of sites that meet both conditions is the iGO directory at igamingontario.ca, and that is the list to check before using any site.

OLG.ca does not work the way private sites do. The Government of Ontario runs it as an online casino through OLG.

How can a person block online gambling sites?

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is a self-exclusion tool run by iGaming Ontario. Self-exclusion means asking to be kept out. From age 19, a person can use this tool to block, in one step, all online gambling sites regulated in Ontario, and OLG.ca is one of them. The block can last for 6 months, for 1 year, for 5 years, or for a length the person sets.

The casino building is outside its reach. OLG's My PlayBreak does that, barring someone from all Ontario casinos for 3 months or 6, or between 1 and 5 years.

Does this guide carry paid links?

The only place this guide shows paid links is its home page, and each one carries the label Ad. Of the three, one is a menu button, and the other two are blocks placed after the first screen and toward the close of the page. Each one leads to a single partner, a company that runs a private online casino and pays the guide a commission. No name is given for the partner, it may be changed, and the guide does not endorse it. Readers can look up any site, the partner included, in the iGO directory at igamingontario.ca.

Small questions, short answers

If an Ontario resident travels out of the province, do their online bets still count?
They do not, because bets only count when the person is physically inside Ontario. An account can be opened from elsewhere, but betting has to wait until they are back in the province.
Is OLG.ca run by the government?
Yes, OLG.ca is the online casino that the Government of Ontario runs through OLG.
Will a BetGuard block keep someone out of the casino building in Innisfil?
It will not, because BetGuard covers online sites only. Staying out of the casino in Innisfil, and every other Ontario casino, is done through My PlayBreak. A PlaySmart Centre, a casino staff member or the OLG Support Centre, on 1-800-387-0098, can each take the enrolment. Once a PlayBreak term starts, it cannot be changed.
